Christmas in July -Finn’s Swap

Do you know the folks at the 3M Bakery?  I hope after reading this post you go on over and say hello.  Their doggies are Matilda, Mac and Maesie.  Well, Mac and Maesie had partners in our Christmas in July swap from their neck of the woods, but Matilda did not.  So Matilda’s peeps thought it would be a nice idea if she partnered with someone, anywhere in the world, who would be willing to buy $20 worth of needed goods and bring them to an animal shelter in their area, and they would do the same.

We wanted to partner with Matilda when we heard this idea.  We knew we would be buying items for the Kent Animal Shelter in Calverton, NY.  We checked out their page of items they would like donated and off we went to the pet store.  I brought Finn with me.  You see what she wanted to buy. Poor gal is always hungry. I swear we feed her!

But in actuality we bought these:

I went to the shelter on Saturday.

And made a new friend Louie. I think Louie and his other dog buddies will enjoy their new toys!  And that’s our swap for Finn; thank you to Matilda’s peeps for a really great idea on the swap!

We Got Mail!

Pawesome, just pawesome.  When Momma went to the mailbox on Saturday, there was a package in it for US!  YAYAY.  It was from Lassie and Benji!  They had a giveaway as part of July’s games to support Benny and we were their Ace match up for the prize.  I love the note!

First was the bracelet for Momma!

Then was a sign for our door – it looks like ME on the sign!

And then a chicken stuffie which we went crazy for!!  See what I mean?

Thank you Lassie, Benji and their Momma!! We loved our package!

You Decide

Charley.

Dog?

Or Gecko?

Just kidding.  I like the way his legs stick out to the sides like that when he is snoozing.

A family friend was over earlier in the month and told us that he looked part Saluki.  We had no idea what that was, so we looked it up.

Now we are convinced.  The eyes and the snout are just spot on.  Remember when we first got him, I had a sneaking suspicion we had been lied to regarding his past, but we let it go. Now we feel like this is the piece of the puzzle we were missing.  We’ve thought about getting a DNA test, but in the end, I don’t really see a point.

Don’t worry Charley, you’re not going anywhere. We love ya, golden or saluki, or any combination of the two.

It’s Coming, Blogville….

Head on over to the geocaching website to get an idea on how to play and come back August 2nd here or on Gizmo’s blog for details…

You’ll want to create a free profile and start clicking around to see where caches near you can be found!  They are everywhere!  We will be giving explanations on how to play with a GPS or with the smartphone app.  If you search in your phone’s App Store, there is a free app if you aren’t ready to commit to the $10 one.

Not sure you are ready to play?  Go back and read Gizmo’s post from last week on why it is so awesome!  Ready to play and have some questions?  Feel free to ask!  You can find our profile on that website as hobbes706 and Gizmo is at JerseyGirl & Bruno.  Go ahead and befriend us there.  Have fun, and remember, come back next Friday!

Wind Sprints with Charley

Wordy Wednesday!
If you signed up for the Christmas in July, you should have received an email by now with your swap partner. Today, Sprinkles will have all the partners listed on her blog. Stop on over and see who is participating this year!

And, I am sorry about the problem with this post! When I created it on Saturday, I accidentally set it to post on 7/4 instead of 7/24. So those of you who get email notifications saw that I had a new post. But then I set it to a future date and you couldn’t see it. Here it is! Hope it was well worth the wait!

Well, I have had enough.  Enough of summer, enough of the heat, enough of being lazy.  Finn is not a fan of the heat but Charley doesn’t seem to mind as much.  So after reading this post last week at To Dog with Love, I decided Charley and I were doing wind sprints.

Our development ends near our backyard, so I decided we were going to use three points to run towards and then head back to our starting point.

1.  The basketball hoop

2.  The bend in the road

3.  Go around the bend in the road to the left of #2 back around to #3, back to start.

I was prepared with the Get Off Your Butt, Work Out With Your Mutt shirt from Slim Doggy.  That’s right.  Finn and Charley got it for me for my birthday.  Little did they know it meant they would be getting of their butts too.  Muh huh huh *evil laugh*

Ok, here we go…

I could probably add this on to our early morning walks from time to time.  I know Charley got a little warm because on our way around the loop, he just caught across the grass back to our house.  I really had no problem with that, it was super hot!

I also want to give a shout out to Jack Joseph’s Mom.  She’s been doing a monthly fitness challenge and her posts motivated me to do this too.  She doesn’t know it, but one day when there was just me in the office, I did ten burpees in the conference room.  It was awesome!

Christmas in July Deadline TODAY

Ok folks, the deadline to enter Christmas in July with you pets is today!!  For those outside the US, please email me by 5pm, Eastern/NY time.  I will be emailing all international folks their swap partners tonight!

See rules below:

Finn’s Momma here.  This year, I am helping Sprinkles spread the word about Her Doggone Doggie Swap.  But, we are expanding it to ALL pets, not just dogs.  Interested?  Follow along – –
This isn’t a swap for yourself, it’s a swap for your pets!  No, we aren’t swapping our pets, although sometimes I wouldn’t mind trading mine in, lol!  Basically, you’ll each buy toys and/or treats for your swap partner and they’ll do the same in return.  You never know what you might get!
The deadline to enter is TONIGHT.  Once your swap partner has been chosen, you will get an email with your swap partner’s information.
I’ve listed the ground rules below, if you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

1.  You can enter each pet you have for the swap individually.  Since I have both Charley and Finn, I am going to fill out the questions below twice (one for each dog).  We will try our best to swap doggies with doggies, cats with cats and exotics with exotics.

2.  The minimum  you can spend before postage is $20 for each pet.  Since I am entering my two dogs, I am committing to spending $40 before postage, since I will be paired with two other pets.

3.  You’ll need to email your organizer and your partner a tracking number for the package you sent out and to let me know when you’ve received your goodies from your partner.  A tracking number adds less than $1 onto your mailing cost if you’re using the Post Office and comes automatically if you’re using FexEx or UPS.   If I discover that you received a package but never sent one out, you’ll be outted and blacklisted from participating in the future!  Fortunately, this hasn’t been an issue in the past, and I’d like to keep it that way.  We will do our best to match pets from the same country, but please note if you are outside the US, you will most likely be partnered with another international pet.

4. You must post about the swap once you receive your package.  We want to see what you got!

5. You have until Saturday, August 3rd to get those packages mailed out.  Since our deadline to enter is today, you should receive an email from me or Sprinkles tonight or tomorrow with your swap partner.  That gives you a week and a half to shop!

6. This is the most important rule – HAVE FUN!!!!!

If this sounds like something you might be interested in, then no matter what your pet, if you live outside the USA, email the form to ME at marianne(dot)d(dot)howard(at)gmail(dot)com.  If you live within the USA, email the form to everythingisbetterwithsprinkles1(at)hotmail(dot)com.
1.  The name(s) of your pet and what kind of pet you have:
2.  Male or female
3.  Breed of pet and size (small, medium, large, xlarge)
4.  Is there anything your dog cannot have?
5.  Is there anything in particular that your pet really likes?  Examples of this might be a certain kind of toy or treat.
6.  Your address.  Your information will only be shared with your swap partner.
